Ringkasan program

This program includes courses in core areas of philosophy plus a concentration in American philosophy, bioethics, or international research ethics. Philosophic inquiry aims, ultimately, at a general understanding of the whole of reality. It draws on the insights of the great historical philosophers, on what has been learned in all other major fields of study, and on the rich perspective embodied within the ordinary ways of thinking. Philosophers address a diverse array of deep, challenging, and profoundly important questions. Examples include the nature of the self and of personal identity; the existence or nonexistence of God; the nature of such phenomena as time, mind, language, and science; the sources and limits of human knowledge; the nature of the good life; the foundations of state authority; the requirements of social justice; and the nature of art, beauty, and aesthetic experience. Philosophical questions are addressed not by reference to empirical information alone, but by means of analysis, synthesis, argument, and the construction and evaluation of philosophical theories.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 and a minimum grade point average of a 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in the student’s undergraduate major. There is no specific major requirement, but applicants must show a record of coursework (or equivalent experience) demonstrating that they are sufficiently prepared to do graduate work in philosophy. Acceptable coursework includes an undergraduate degree in philosophy. International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550(paper-based version), 213 (computer-based version), 79 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. After being admitted, students may require to take one or more supplemental EAP courses to develop additional language proficiency if TOEFL scores are below 80 (iBT), 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) in IUPUI EAP placement test.
