Ringkasan program
This program is designed for students who want a broad education in agriculture to prepare for careers that require knowledge of food systems and natural resources, such as production and marketing of foods and ornamental plants; and careers in agricultural education in secondary schools, cooperative extension, and crop consulting. Students in the program develop a curriculum that best fits their individual needs. Cornell is one of the world leaders in international agriculture and rural development. As an agricultural science major, participation in at least one class focusing on international agriculture is required. Students will have boundless opportunities to earn credit for their participation in structured study tours to places like Mexico, India and the Philippines to learn about agriculture outside of the U.S. Many students also arrange for their required internship to be based internationally at a farm or organization. This program aims to strengthen the student’s knowledge and skills in the production and management of crop systems, including the use of both organic and conventional methods. Within the concentration, students take courses in field crops, horticulture, pest management, and soil science. Students can learn the importance of weed management, the principles of vegetable production, nutrient cycling in cropping systems, and how to calculate returns on different management systems. This concentration allows students to learn more about how to overcome environmental stresses such as drought, cold and weeds in cropping systems and to develop pest control methods that are sustainable and do not harm the ecosystem.
