Ringkasan program
In this program students are admitted to the M.A. program and take professional coursework leading to an initial teaching certificate. Some certification coursework can be taken at either the undergraduate or graduate level; at least 15 credits for the M.A. must be taken at the 500 or 600 level, with the remainder at the 400 level. Some 400 level certification courses may not be counted towards the M.A. 30 credits minimum, Required Common Core of 6 credits (Foundations, Research), An academic specialization (18-24 credits), Two electives, Each student must produce a major paper, A written comprehensive exam near the end of the coursework is required for those students not completing a thesis.

Persons wishing to be admitted to the program must hold the baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution by the time they begin their graduate studies at URI. Two copies of the completed application form, two official copies of the transcripts of all previous college and post-baccalaureate work, sealed by the Registrar in the envelopes provided, a minimum of two letters of recommendation from instructors, employers, or supervisors, sealed by the referees in the envelope provided, some experience in the field of Adult Education. Applicants from foreign countries must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 unless a higher minimum is listed under the admission requirements for the specific plan. Students also completed GRE math and verbal sections. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are optional for both domestic and international applicants, as listed on a reference copy of the application forms (international or US). The University has established a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper based test); the equivalent minimum score on the computer-based test is 213. On the newest TOEFL test, minimum scores are 20 (reading), 22 (writing), 17 (listening), and 17/23 (speaking, higher value to be a teaching assistant).
