This program creates a unique opportunity to explore the historical, cultural, philosophical and economic implications of philanthropy. Historians routinely study the role of nonprofit organizations, self-help groups and philanthropic institutions, and their contributions to the development of civil society and the modern world. This dual degree program gives students of history rich insights into the important social relations of class, gender and race in the last century. It offers an interdisciplinary focus on how philanthropy has affected the past, present and future, and is attractive if the following are pursued: careers that demand skills and talents developed by cross-training in history and philanthropy; doctoral programs that encourage new and creative approaches to the historical study of philanthropy, broadly defined.

This program module includes G585 Modern China (3 cr.), H500 History of Historical Thought (4 cr.), H501 Historical Methodology (4 cr.), H516 History of Philanthropy in the United States (3 cr.), H521 Topics in African, Asian, or Latin American History (3cr.), H542 Public History (4 cr.), H543 Practicum in Public History (1-4 cr.), H546 Special Topics in the History of Science and Technology (3 cr.), H547 Special Topics in Public History (3 cr.), H548 Historical Administration (3 cr.), H575 Graduate Readings in History, Colloquia (4 cr.), Seminars (4 cr.).

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an overall undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 and a minimum grade point average of a 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 in the student’s undergraduate major and GRE scores to be greater than 1000 (Verbal and Math combined). Applicants with a grade point average below 3.0 may be considered for conditional admission. International applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550(paper-based version), 213 (computer-based version), 79 (Internet-based version) or an IELTS score of 6.0 or successful completion of ELS Language Centers Intensive Program Level 112. Students from Japan must have a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken. After being admitted, students may require to take one or more supplemental EAP courses to develop additional language proficiency if TOEFL scores are below 80 (iBT), 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) in IUPUI EAP placement test.
