The public history track in the history MA program is designed to serve the needs of a variety of students, including those who plan to pursue a PhD, those wishing to improve their proficiency as secondary school teachers, and those who seek to enrich their intellectual lives. It seeks to prepare students who are interested in the preservation and interpretation of historical resource for a general audience. Students who wish to pursue careers using archival studies, community and local history, documentary editing, historic site preservation and administration, museum studies, oral history, historical resource management or applied research will find this degree valuable and rewarding. The program requires a minimum of 36 credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree, including 9 credit hours of required core courses, 15 credit hours in the public history area of concentration, and 6 credit hours of elective courses taken outside of the area of concentration.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students should have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution and a GPA of 3.0 or more (on a 4.0 maximum) in all work attempted while registered as an undergraduate student or while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student (normally based on the last sixty attempted semester hours); or, a graduate degree or professional degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its equivalent from a foreign institution in a field related to the discipline of the program to which the student is applying. International students must demonstrate their proficiency in the English language. International students, except those who are from countries where English is the only official language, those who have earned a degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or those who have earned a degree from a country where English is the only official language or from a university at which English is the only official language of instruction, should demonstrate a score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS. They should have obtained a TOEFL score of 233 (computer-based) or 91 (internet-based) (or equivalent score on the paper-based test); or an IELTS score of 7.0.
