Ringkasan program

This program is designed to equip students for careers in academia and/or applied sociology (also known as sociological practice or clinical sociology). Students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty in educational and research activities in areas such as gender, race and ethnicity, health and illness, disasters, urbanization and development, demography, aging, work and organizations, marriage and family, and environmental sociology. It has two option, thesis option: Students who plan to pursue the Ph.D. after completing the Master’s degree are strongly encouraged to use this option. With this option, students are required to complete the core courses, an additional 15 hours of substantive courses, and must write and successfully defend a thesis, non-thesis option: Students to take this option must complete 27 hours of courses in addition to the three core courses, and must, at the end of the program pass a comprehensive exam designed by their advisory committee.

The modules include AGER 5300 Computer Applications in Long-Term Care and Community-Based Services for the Aging 4, AGER 5400 Health Delivery Systems 3, AGER 5600 Housing for the Elderly: Planning, Public Policy and Research 1-3; AGER 5750 Processes of Aging 1-3 or AGER 5700 Social Gerontology 1-3 and AGER 5860 Seminar on the Psychology of Aging 1-3; AGER 5710 Health Aspects of Human Aging 1-3, AGER 5740 Financial Issues in Aging Administration 3, AGER 5780 Federal, State and Local Programs in Aging 1-3, AGER 5790 Needs Assessment, Program Planning and Evaluation in the Services for the Elderly 3, AGER 5810 Seminar on Administration of Programs in Aging 3, AGER 5940 Proseminar on Applications in Practice 3; plus 3 hours of internship (AGER 5840), Electives in applied gerontology (AGER 5250 Topics in Gerontology 1-3, AGER 5350 Basic Mediation Skills in Aging 3, AGER 5500 Retirement and Retirement Preparation 1-3, AGER 5560 Seminar on Minority Aging 3, AGER 5770 Program Evaluation in Aging Services 3, AGER 5800 Grant Proposal Writing for Aging Services 1-3, AGER 5880 Ethical Issues in an Aging Society 3 and AGER 5890) or in business. Students seeking licensure as long-term care administrators must take AGER 5850 Internship in Administration of Programs in Aging 3, ACCT 5020 Accumulation and Analysis of Accounting Data 3, BLAW 5050 Legal, Regulatory and Ethical Environment of Business 1.5 and MGMT 5140 Organizational Behavior and Analysis 3.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. Students must have a grade point average of 2.8 on the last 60 hours of courses for the bachelor’s degree (or a GPA of 2.8 on all undergraduate work); a GPA of 2.8 on all sociology courses; and scores on the verbal and quantitative sections on the GRE. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based), score of 550 (Paper-based) and score of 213 (Computer-based) and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall band and also should have minimum MELAB (official version) score of 80 or higher.
