Applicants should have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, a strong academic record (as indicated by a GPA of 3.0 or above in the junior and senior undergraduate years or in any graduate work previously attempted), competitive GRE scores (as indicated by scores above the 50th percentile in 2 of the 3 exam areas), and a degree appropriate for the anticipated teaching field. A statement of purpose for pursuing the MAT degree that is both well written and in line with the mission and commitment of the Division is also required.

This School offers more than 40 degree programs across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. These competitive programs prepare graduates for careers ranging from college and university teaching to policy-making, research, administration and service in the public and private sectors. The Teaching Assistant Training and Teaching Opportunity Program, a core requirement for the PhD, prepares graduate students to balance the demands of teaching and research in a university setting. Emory's graduate programs encourage interdisciplinary study and cross-disciplinary exchange within the context of excellent training in core disciplines. Among the graduate schools interdisciplinary programs are the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, the Graduate Institute of the Liberal Arts, the Graduate Division of Religion, and Women's Studies. In addition, the Graduate School offers joint degrees with Emory School of Law, the School of Medicine and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Emory University offers affordable housing options for Candler School of Theology students in one, two, and three bedroom apartments on campus or within close proximity to campus. All campus housing is easily accessible by walking, biking, or riding Emory's free Cliff shuttle system. Candler provides students who wish to live off campus with resources such as apartment listings and local websites. For information about local schools and daycare options. Emory University seeks to provide access to a great range of housing options for its graduate and professional school students. Emory's vision for housing includes expanding and enhancing graduate and professional school housing in venues on the edges of campus targeted to students' needs and desires. All applications for the following housing options are made through Emory University's Office of Residence Life. For the 2008-2009 academic year, Candler School of Theology students have the following on campus options they are President Park Apartment, The President Park Apartments, located just off campus on Clairmont Road and situated on one of Emory's free Cliff shuttle system routes, offer one, two, and three-bedroom unfurnished apartments for Candler students and their immediate families (spouse and/or children), other Emory graduate students, faculty and staff.
