This program provides students with research skills, this option provides preparation for three different possible certifications are Standard Teacher Certification in English, Language Arts and Reading - students may choose to be certified at the 4th through 8th grade level or the 8th -12th grade level. Reading Specialist Certification - This certification allows students to work at all levels, from Early Childhood through 12th grade. They will typically assist students with reading through various methods and strategies and also serve as coach/mentors to other teachers. Master Reading Teacher - This certification allows students to work at all levels, from Early Childhood through 12th grade. In terms of coursework, this certification would require only one additional course on the Reading Specialist Certification plan. It will typically take two to three years to complete the degree if students are enrolled full-time (nine hours per semester). Students will specifically learn to demonstrate an understanding of literacy development for early childhood through 12th grade students; be cognizant of books and strategies that motivate youngsters to become lifetime readers; be able to administer and interpret various assessment tools used to evaluate reading difficulties; demonstrate presentation skills for working with in-service teachers in the area of professional development. A master’s degree in Reading and Language Arts and Literature Education provides the best possible preparation for careers as leaders in schools and child-related agencies such as hospitals, industry, and mental health. Graduates of this program may pursue the following positions: community college instructors, master reading teachers, reading specialists, curriculum specialists, literacy coaches/mentors, 4th -8th grade language arts classroom teacher and 8th-12th grade English classroom teacher.

The modules include ELED 6320: Foundations of Reading and Language Arts Instruction, SEDE 6340: Reading in the Middle and Secondary Schools, CUIN 6330: Literacy Assessment/Instruction for Diverse Learners, CUIN 6393: Practicum in Reading, CUIN 7348: Master Reading Teacher, ELED 6315: Literature for Children or SEDE 6335: Literature for Adolescents, CUIN 6317: Educational Principles of 2nd Language Acquisition, Elective Courses.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree. They must have earned an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 to be unconditionally accepted into the master’s program. Those students with a GPA less than 3.0, but not below 2.6 (A = 4.0) may be admitted conditionally. International students should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper based exam or 213 for the computer-based exam or 79 on the Internet based (iBT) is generally acceptable proof of English proficiency. The minimum required IELTS score for admissions is 6.5 on a scale from 1 to 9.
