This program is designed to train students in the study of the size, distribution, structure, and health of human populations. The curriculum offers a broad range of theories related to demographic behavior and its consequences on society, the economy, politics, and culture. Areas of specific interest within the department include fertility; migration; mortality; and aging along with mathematical components such as population data measures and demographic analysis. Students will leave with a combination of both qualitative and quantitative knowledge that will enable them to graduate and pursue a wide range of careers in government, nongovernmental health organizations, academia or private organizations. Components of the MHS in Demography program include a set of core departmental courses that provide a common theoretical foundation for the work of the entire department. These courses include biological/developmental; demographic; and social science foundations. MHS in demography students in population, family and reproductive health will also complete a set of specialized courses in demographic theories and quantitative demographic analysis. In addition to coursework, students are required to complete an original essay of publishable quality based on secondary data analysis. The program track of reproductive, perinatal and women's health (RPWH) has a holistic focus on women's and families' needs both domestically and internationally. It provides training in research, practice and policy relevant to the following: human reproduction and family planning; maternal health and the health of newborns; health disparities and services for women of reproductive age; and gender issues all over the world. Nestled within the department of population, family and reproductive health, the track enables students to combine an interest in RPWH with a broader knowledge base offered by the interdisciplinary faculty of social science and health backgrounds. The RPWH program will prepare candidates for careers in administration, policy and evaluation.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate with strong academic backgrounds in the natural or social sciences. All applicants must demonstrate the compatibility of their career goals with the educational objectives of the degree program to which they are applying. They are usually required to complete the aptitude test of the Graduate Record Examination. A minimum TOEFL score of 250 (computer-based test) or 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (internet-based) is required for admission. The minimum requirement for IELTS is a score of 7.
