I was selected on the basis of my CV through IIT KGP's exchange program with VCU. I applied for J1 visa and found that obtaining the same was far easier than expected. I suppose I was not probed as I had a letter from the VCU mentioning the exchange program with KGP. I had a great experience flying on emirates to New York. Two checked-in and a carry bag weighing 35 kg each was allowed. Excess baggage was charged an additional amount. My immigration check-out at New York was very smooth.

The internship program was very well structured. Their research environment and their methodical approach made their labs superior to that of their Indian counterparts. The facilities were made available to me upon my producing the ID card. I would advice students to secure high grades to ensure a decent academic record.

I lived in a dormitory provided by the University. The people were friendly and I appreciate their warmth while greeting others. The social scene is great as there are many clubs and 24x7 restaurants.
