My visa experience was peaceful. Some couple of minutes. I had to give GRE and TOEFL. No coaching classes attended. No education counselor/ consultant. Travel was easy (from Chennai to SFO cost around 33 K Air India). Air India was good but the connecting airlines was Singapore Airlines which was even better. Air India for the route I took didn¿t offer any student fare.I landed at San Francisco Airport. San Francisco is 30 miles away from Stanford. Baggage rules were 2*23 kgs + hand luggage of 8kgs. But they were not very strict. As in I took close to 50 kgs (26 + 24) and they never weighed the hand luggage. I had no problems with immigration in the US .. just some 5minutes. They take foto + finger print that¿s all. At Stanford there is Stanford Indian Association to welcome the Indian Students. So they will pick you up from airport.

The course is just great.. The very fact being at Stanford is great! The Professors are the gods in their field. As in Aero & Astro department at Stanford is by far the number 1. And especially in Fluids and thermal.

My accommodation was 1 Bedroom, 1 Hall Kitchen within Stanford. (Apartment provided by Stanford Cost is 530$ per head). There are a variety of lecture halls ranging from accommodating 60 students till close to 500 students. All these places are stud.All the libraries are interconnected. Have close to 4 million books on various topics.The sports facilities here are stud. And all these facilities are free if you are a student. No idea about part-time jobs as I am on a fellow. Should be easy to get. Think California has the best weather in the entire US. So it does get cold during winter but then it is way better than other places in this regard. Indian student Society: SIA ¿ Stanford Indian Association. They handle all the events like Holi, Diwali, Freshers welcome, Saraswati pooja and there are gen get-togethers¿They also help in arranging pick-ups for the freshmen at Stanford.

Placement wise Stan Grads don¿t have any problems. There are career fairs within Stanford every quarter. (Stan follows a quarter system unlike other schools where semester is being followed). It is in the heart of Silicon valley. So the culture here is that they encourage start ups etc etc¿ It is a pretty routine process. So should be very peaceful.
