I have enjoyed being challenged to think to change my mind and myself to stretch myself to achieve being challenged to be part of a new generation of nurses in a fast changing medical world I have been challenged to care and make a difference and to confront the communities' misconception of modern nurses and why nurses need to study at university.
I applied from Europe whilst on holidays there I applied through the University Admissions Centre UAC. The University of Canberra was my first preference I wasnt sure if I would get in but I was pleasantly suprised. As to how difficult was it to be awarded a place Im not sure the biggest challenge for me as a mature age student was beleiving in myself enough to apply. Applying was the best decision I have made in a long time.
I am a rural student who has moved to Canberra there are many funding and scholarship opportunities available to all nursing students. I found out about them from the campus website on nursing faculty noticeboards and on search engines. My first suggestion is to actually apply apparently many scholarships receive no applications!
Well the first semester was very hard for me nursing is a fast changing profession therefore there is a high challenge for personal change and change of thinking. I got through it and now love it! Im happy to be learning and changing for the better. If you open your mind to the fact that the course will change as you go along as the profession is changing so fast you will cope well. Lecturers and tutors are very supportive and are always available be prepared for constructive criticism it will help you learn more. As a mature age student my advice is there is alot of support throughtout the University for student like me who havent studied in years Accademic Skills pre-university courses workshops library tutorial to help with research counseling etc all free!
Canberra is a 'people's city bike tracks museums galleries open spaces Canberra has many faces cultural rural alternative sometimes it isnt like a city it is more like a very large country town (where the Prime Minister happens to live). The University of Canberra has everything to offer that I need. Accommodation in Canberra is VERY hard to find. Part-time work is easy to find no shortage of that. I have found it a little challenging to make friends in Canberra but Im still working on that it is sometimes a transient population and I supose Im a little unique no previous uni education single no children mature age.
Plenty of nursing jobs I believe that there are hospitals champing at the bit for nursing graduates in all capital cities.
