My experience of university has been amazing. Charles Sturt University has offered me opportunities I never thought I could have. As a mother of four young children I believed that I would have to wait to study but CSU's distance delivery has enabled me to be a 'real' uni student without waiting. I am loving every minute of it and even though it has been hard work and long hours I am thrilled with what I am doing. Charles Sturt University is by far a leader in what they offer distance students right down to the support of staff and comprehensive online services available. I have loved the massive selection of subjects and the ability to attend teleconferences in place of lectures. Everything has been more than I could have hoped for.

As a 'mature-aged' student I needed to apply directly to the university. I gathered my information through their amazing website and then decided to call the university for further guidance and information. Obviously there are standard deadlines and requirements for entry so I compiled my application and sent it off. Once this had been approved and processed I received that glorious offer letter in the mail with information on how to use the online services and what I needed to do to prepare for my studies. I also received credit for prior learning and this was processed quickly and applied to my CSU transcript immediately. I personally found that it was easy to gain a place in the course that I am currently studying.

CSU and related organisations offer scholarship programs - especially for those disadvantaged due to location or finances. I have applied for these scholarships in the past but have been unsuccessful thus far. CSU is excellent with reminding all students vis email that the scholarships are available and what you need to do to apply. There is now an online application system where in the past you had to fill in a form and attach all relevant documents. The new system is so easy that it must be an incentive for all eligible students to apply. There is also plenty of services and information available on things like HECS and FEE-HELP for those that need it.

My course is amazing. As an Arts course there is a wide variety of subjects available. The structure of the course is excellent providing different ways in which you can complete the course. The subjects I have studied have been great value. Some I have enjoyed more than others but that is very common. My communication with the CSU staff had been exceptional - they are dedicated and supportive of distant students and make themselves available by email or telephone. I have used the schools of justice studies philosophy and sociology and I believe I have had the best possible experience with the staff and facilities involved. If I needed to advise anybody interested in taking this course I would tell them to deliberately look for subjects that offer teleconferences or group assessments as they involve you in the 'university' community - especially for distant students.

I didn't really need to worry about any of these factors as I have studied by distance. This in itself has provided myself and other students to pursue family and work committments as we need to. The facilities that are most relevant are those offered online and I have found this to be exceptional. The library online research facilities bookshop forums and administration all offer excellent service and really make it as easy as possible for distance students to have access to the same services as those on-campus.

Absolutely. I plan on undertaking postgraduate study through CSU and this will directly qualify me to work in my chosen career path. There are also many other opportunities available honours postgraduate overseas trips to study etc. I believe that I will be extremely well prepared and highly employable once I have completed my studies with CSU.
