I am fully enjoying my time at EBI, Cambridge. A piece of advice would be to get hold of your concepts before coming to postgraduation and choose your subject area very carefully as it is a matter of 5 years ahead of you.
3 interviews taken by professors and group leaders at EBI. Had to send three recommendation letters before the interviews. Interviews were mostly on technical side emphasizing more on research domain. The visa process was extremely painful as the visa required no work at EBI. It is kind of rare and classified under a different category. Had to run to Delhi many times, but was eventually issued visa after 1.5 months. Suggestion: Apply for visa ASAP after getting offer. At least, keep a gap of 2-3 months if possible.
It was majorly research work based on computational investigation. No lectures were there, but did attend a lot of seminars and had to give some myself. I got full support from study perspective. The course was very well structured and learnt a lot from it. It was one of my best times in time.
Campus facilities were really great. Cambridge is a very peaceful place with mostly students in the town. The people were very friendly (one of the best according to me). Accommodation was costly, around 300 GBP per month, but all the expenses incurred were reimbursed by the institution. In case of no financial support, there are several part-time jobs available that can supplement income in Cambridge.
My future job prospects are highly burgeon after this study. I am in constant touch with the group I was with. I would be pursuing higher studies now.
