I am simply loving my university experience and I think I can safely say that so are 95% of the people I know on campus. The student body, college facilities, bars and transport system on campus are amazing. The college can focus on having bigger dorm rooms and reducing tution! My only suggestion would be to come with an open mind and not have any stereotypical images in mind because that is not the way things work around here.

It wasnt hard to get in since I had a good SAT score. The essays were not a pain. Over the years I have to know that getting into my university is much harder than I thought it was especially for American students. I downloaded their application online and after filling it up couriered it back to them. Visa process was very smooth.

There is no financial assistance in the form of scholarships available for International Students though bright students can apply for fellowships once inside the university. I would advice that one should not count on these and should have enough funds to pay the entire tution fees before enrolling.

I am pursuing Industrial and Operations engineering which I believe is the closest Engineering can get to Management. There are 3 core areas of study in my course. First being optimization of processes. Which is basically making the best use out of what you have. This is done in various classes sometimes using equations and various methods or sometimes using softwares and simulation. The second part is Statistics and logistics. We have to take atleast 2 classes which are based primarily on these topics and we work on various methods of data collection and analysis. The third core area is Ergonomics or Human factors. The classes on this topic basically concentrate on topics like worker safety, strain and stresses cause due to work and in higher level classes get more particular for example human factors in automotive design which would discuss how vehicles should be designed to best suit human habits and needs. Most professors are very well learned and good teachers. They are all very helpful and make sure that every question is answered either in the class or after it. Yes I feel that my course was value for money just because of the approach that these classes take towards learning. I would advice new students to take it easy on the number of classes they pick per semester because a lot of students feel that the courses are not that hard. But as a lot of them realize it through their first semester even if the courses are not that hard it takes a lot of time management to fit all the coursework together with partying and going out. Plus its not easy when uve just landed in a new country with not too many familiar faces.

Campus has all the facilities in world class standards. The nearest city being detroit is not too safe nobody ventures there after dark so that is a negative point, but on the other hand there is never really a need to go to detroit because there is quite a lot to do on campus and other nearby areas. Accommodation in university housing is roughly $1000 per person per month on a dual sharing basis. I would recommend this for the first year so you get to meet a lot of people. After the first year most students shift to off campus housing for more space and because a lot of students find people they want to stay with. Off campus housing is usually cheaper and will cost around $300-$1000 depending on how close the apt is to campus and how many people share it. It is very easy to find part time work and most places pay $7-$10 per hour. But the max. international students can work is 20hrs/week. Well there are hardly any secrets between the whole student body but every fraternity and sorority has their own secrets but I dont think I can share my fraternity secrets. There is a student group or club for every single thing from saving squirrels to student democrats and republicans to poker club and cycling clubs. There are a lot of events organized for freshmen but students who prefer to do their own things can do so too. There are various clubs for international students, most of them being country specific clubs like Indian Students Association or Pakistani Student Association. One of the biggest clubs on my campus is Indian American Students Association who host the biggest show on campus every year which is attended by 5000ppl.
