University of Kentucky (UKY). Pros: Above average ranked university. Computer science department has good combination of courses. Best part of UKY is the Kentucky Graduate Scholarship (KGS). KGS is awarded to all individuals with greater than 3 GPA ( or > 75%). This makes out-state students elgible for in-state fee. ( Which cuts about 70% of fee). Most of my batch CS students easily got recuirted in local companies like Lexmark (LXK). Cons: Small city, so limited companies for placement. For all the helpful information visit: http://www.uky.edu/StudentOrgs/ISA/. This website will answer most of your question.

Regular F1 Questionarrie. For Engineering Stream: GRE, TOEFL, 3 recommendation letters, and statement of purpose. Counselors are only helpful for detailing admission process. My travel was easy.

Kentucky Graduate Scholarships: A merit scholarship opportunity for non-resident applicants to the University of Kentucky Graduate School. All new non-resident students (both domestic and international) enrolled in a University of Kentucky graduate degree program are eligible for tuition scholarships based on prior academic performance (students accepted to the MBA program are not eligible for a KGS award). These Kentucky Graduate Scholarship (KGS) awards, which cover the standard out-of-state graduate tuition rate, allow the awardees to attend the University at the in-state tuition rate (in cases where graduate programs charge a differential tuition rate, the Graduate School will pay the standard graduate tuition rate only). To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25 on all undergraduate work and on any prior graduate work. All non-resident applicants for admission to the University of Kentucky Graduate School will be automatically considered for this award; no separate scholarship application is required. Scholarship eligibility will be determined at the point of the applicant's acceptance into the Graduate School, and no prior assessment of an applicant's eligibility will be provided. All awardees will receive confirmation of the award by mail at the time of acceptance to the Graduate School. In cases where the student's grades are not based on a 4.00 scale, the Dean of the Graduate School establishes guidelines for the determination of scholarship eligibility. Once enrolled, awardees must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher; should the GPA fall below 3.00 the KGS award is lost permanently. For students enrolling for the first time in spring 2006 or later, KGS awards will be limited to: * 4 semesters in a master's program (combined summer sessions count as one semester). * 8 semesters in a doctoral program. * 10 semesters in a master's followed by a doctoral program. Students cannot receive the KGS for a second master's degree.

Please access http://www.uky.edu/StudentOrgs/ISA/Housing.html for accommodation details. Very easy to get part-time jobs. Small city, but in close vicinity to big cities, access: http://www.visitlex.com/. Typical middle eastern US climate. This link will give you an idea of the ISA, http://www.uky.edu/StudentOrgs/ISA. Given below is a detailed outline of your monthly income and expenditure. All of you should be able to find an on-campus job within the first month of getting here. An on campus job should pay you anything from $6 - $10 per hour. As an international student, you are allowed to work for 20 hours per week. On that basis, your income per month will be around $450. Compare that to your monthly expenditure. Expenses On ¿ Campus Off ¿ Campus. Monthly Rent $ 170 - 250 $ 160 - $ 230, Water Bill Included in rent $ 25-40 per house, Local telephone $ 30 per house $ 30 per house, Electricity Included in the rent $ 25 - $ 30 per house, Monthly Grocery Bill $ 60 - $ 100 $ 60 - $ 100, Phone Calls to India $ 40 - $100 $ 40 - $100, Total $300 to $480 $340 to $515. * Immediately on arrival you will need to pay $90 - $ 250 as deposit for your apartment. You will also have to pay the first month¿s rent. So be prepared for an initial expense of around $ 700 - $900 and get money accordingly. * Most Indian students get around $ 2500 - $ 4000 alongwith them. Do not get an unnecessarily big amount of money with you as it might be a financial burden to your parents and it is a big hassle to send the money back. * A dollar-draft on your name or Traveler cheques are the best form to get the money. * You can open an account in the University Of Kentucky Federal Credit Union Bank, which is located on the campus.
