Hey All, The computer science major at NIU is getting a kind of confused as each year passes. Many of you who are reading this might be looking towards a good funding scenario as well with a good curriculum to study in. THe course work at this place has been better when compared to that a couple of years back, as the courses related to assembly and stufff have beeen completely removed from the course work. So, we have studying some reasonable course work now. Coming to the funding(assistantship, waivers etc...) scene, as said its been a bit confusing these days, the year we came here, the basis on which the assistantships were released was the GRE score, and first come first policy,,,i.e., a candidate with a good GRE score and if applies first has a good chance of getting a good waiver, and this year it was only the first come first policy, and a few other aspects. And regarding the place, it is Dekalb, just around 60 miles from chicago, and absolutely secured place, like you need not fear from any kind of threats as it is common only in downtowns and some other areas. The desi community has been growing at a faster pace, and the departments that can be looked into for coming here are Comp Sci, Mechanical and Industrial. EE dept really lacks funds, and I prefer not many people apply for it, and thats it, All The Best...
