I came to Plymouth University fresh from finishing my A-levels at a local secondary school. The reason why I chose to study International Relations with Politics was because towards the end of my secondary school education I felt as though I did not know anything about what was happening in the world. Luckily, the combination of both International Relations and Politics at the University of Plymouth was both engaging and enlightening.
The staff were always available to help me when I encountered problems and it was lovely to have such down-to-earth lecturers and the atmosphere was always relaxed, yet intellectually stimulating at the same time. The course content was varied and covered local politics, through to countries within the European Union and the United States. Course assignments were flexible in their content as we were given a choice out of a number of essay titles and the same was true for presentation topics. Overall, the politics course at Plymouth University allowed me to focus on and develop my own interests in politics in a relaxed environment with the support of extremely helpful, friendly lecturers. As a result, I have decided to carry on studying for a Masters at Plymouth where I know the teaching is of high quality and the extensive facilities will allow me to further enhance my knowledge of issues that I am passionate about.
During the time I studied for my degree I lived at home with my parents and carried on with my part-time jobs that I had held prior to university. I thought that maybe I would feel detached from the "university experience" as I was still living at home. However, I joined the Politics and International Affairs Society and I also helped set up Intention (the university publication run by students). Through these extra-curricular activities I met many people that had similar interests to me.
