No particular advice as such but take things as they come be patient and keep up the good work as you never know whats around the corner.
As I am doing my post doc there is no need to write exams although I had to take TOEFL. Post doc basically means doing research with professor assisting him and enhancing his/her own knowledge. As I have done my masters in UK I travelled by British Airways and about visa immigration. I frankly do not remember as it was long time back. I have lot of friends here hence no problem in settling as such.
Its like you enjoy doing something and you give your best efforts irrespective of the result although its easier said than done but that's how I go about things, facilities are brilliant.
I am being paid for my services. Job scenario is bleak but as they say there is always light at the end of tunnel. Weather is pleasant, people are good, nightlife is awesome.
I will consider myself lucky as I got a post doc but to be frank its down because companies are skeptical about their future expansions and the current ones have no vacancies. Job fairs, off campus recruitments, alumni contacts, faculty link but for all that to work various forces have to synchronize (money, opportunity, work permit).
