I did the BSc Hospitality Management, graduated with first class honours in 2003. Also got three (I think) business prizes. I went to Clifton College Bristol and achieved three A-levels in Economics, History and Technology. I then went and travelled around Southern Africa where I worked as a Game Ranger and eventually became a Game Reserve Manager for a large game reserve and hospitality company. This company had resorts all over South Africa. This experience in the hospitality industry steered me into change my degree from International Relations and Politics to Hospitality Management.
I really enjoyed the course. The quality of teaching was very high, especially as the staff had worked in industry and therefore could relate the theories into practice. This gave them more credibility than if they had just been academics. I undertook the course at Seale-Hayne so therefore had a very different experience to what is offered now. The facilities were good and geared towards the subject. I especially enjoyed the cooking aspect at South Devon College!
As I had worked in the Hospitality Industry before the course I thought I'd get some business/financial experience when I finished my degree, therefore I went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland; in Hereford, and within a year I became a Financial Advisor. This was an interesting job - it taught me about finance and how banks work with companies.
