I ended up with an applied Economics degree - graduated in 1994. I enjoyed the course and the tutors, who were approachable, the atmosphere was quite paternalistic.
The study environment and the facilities were initially not that good; however, when the Cookworthy building opened as the Business School, the environment changed and the support services, library and study facilities were excellent. When I completed my undergraduate studies I took up an Mphil/Phd programme in Economics -staying at Plymouth.. .unfortunately, I didn't complete this!
Doing a degree meant I faced difficulties financing my experience so I worked a great deal of the time - mind you the social life was immense - Bantham, Whitsand's, Wembury, the Student's Union, and The Star of the West all hold fond memories !
My experience of lecturing through the Mphil/Phd programme encouraged me to consider teaching. After supplying for some time following my extensive sabbatical period (Australia, Indonesia et al-5 years) I just needed to find a location .choosing Cornwall was the easy part - finding a job was slightly trickier. I came into Treviglas on a temporary basis and went for gold Been there ever since!
