MIS is not offered at many places. Each univ has its own pros and cons. Some courses are real good others aren't then again it depends on the individual. Most Profs are generally nice and friendly. The deal is to understand what their expectations are and meet them which in some cases are really difficult.
Fees is reasonable compared to other universities. Students have the option to avail different loans at very low interest rates and pay in installments.
People often tend to crib about courses but those cribbers don't take the good courses because the probability of getting a B grade is high and coursework is hectic. Another factor is that for people graduating in 1.5 years they have to have 4 courses after the first semester which means they necessarily have to take at least one light course to manage their time.
Its one of the biggest campuses in the US. Excellent recreation facilities. Only draw back is that it is situated a little far off from the major residence areas. However having said there is no way anyone should miss out on the amazing facilities the univ offers. Several student organizations exist. As is the case with all univs in the US its really upto the individual to take the initiative to contact club reps and take part in their activities. Aggie-Nights are usually hosted during fall and spring semester Fridays (Free food + usually a movie or some other event). Some event or the other will always be there either at the B-school or at some place in the univ on almost every other day. Lotsa Indian students out here so competition is really stiff for the part-time jobs. Its really upto the student to take the initiative build contacts and get a job. Referrals work here big time. Computer jobs pay pretty decently. GA/RA is tough to get however it should not hurt anyone to really try for it. Cost of living is CHEAP. Probably the main reason why students come here it could come to as low as 280 $ a month (incl of rent) if you are sharing an apmt and cook food at home regularly.
CONTACTS. I really cant stress the word enough. If you come here expecting companies lining up for campus interviews and offering jobs u are going to be sorely disappointed. Its entirely upto the student to take initiative and get contacts during career, social or networking events. I personally know people who have gotten jobs/ internships during conferences/ seminars organized in the campus. Brush up your resume, apply through websites, forward through contacts (most successful), call people to get jobs/ internships and most importantly do it early and regularly. One of my friends had 4 intern offers (none were campus interviews) when many people didn't have even one. When asked the reason he said he had applied to almost 150 companies through different means over a period of 2 months. The difference is in the effort and how effectively one goes about it. Remember people can only get students to the doorstep i.e the interview. Its upto each one to make use of the opportunity. If u cant convert interview opportunities chances are u might not get others. Its that competitive.
