I would advice students to prepare yourself physically and mentally to handle Purdue. Nothing is easy here.
One has to write exams. I took 3 month coaching in India for SAT. I used some help from educational counselors but not a lot. I needed a F1 student VISA. Visa interview was cake. The interviewer asked me the name of the university and the intended major, and thats it. So it was easy. Tickets were also easy. I dont remember the airline but I switch airlines a lot. Lufthansa, Swiss, BA, AA, Austrian, KLM, etc. All airlines are somewhat the same to me. I dont look for special student fares so I dont know. I landed at Chicago, USA (ORD). The airport is 3 hour drive from my university. 2 bags, 1 hand baggage and 1 carry-on. No immigration issues at port of entry. The university does not offer meet and greet at the airport, however there were plenty of meet and greet when I reached the university.
The university offers scholarships.
The program is fine. Professors are 9/10. So there is always scope for improvement. Lecture halls are big and some are old but they are good. Libraries are pretty good. I have access to full Olympics standard sport facilities and that too at no extra cost.
I changed accommodation from apartment style to dorm style. I live in university hostels. Hostels are okay. Boys and girls dont live on the same floor/ are not neighbors. Its easy for anyone to get an average job at my university. Social scene is good but could have been much better. Night-life is something I dont know much about as I am not 21 yet and for under 21 the night-life is bad. [WARNING] Weather is a NIGHTMARE [/WARNING]. Plenty of international student societies. Virtually all big festivals and parties.
There is a placement cell. It is very hard for internationals to get jobs. There is a campus placement process but it has proved futile for me. Work permit process is average difficult. There is an alumni society. The alumni network is pretty active. Alumni does not help with any placements.
