I would advice students to try for Old Dominion University. The programs offered here are pretty decent and it has a very beautiful campus with water surrounding on one side. But the main thing to note is that we have lots of job fairs, so more opportunities to land a good job.
Most of the universities require students to take GRE and TOEFL tests, so I did with the help of Visu Institute in Hyderabad. I did hire a counselor. Visa process takes time but it should be fine. My airline was KLM(amsterdam). I did not get a student fare. I did not require any excess baggage. I landed at Detroit Metro airport, then Norfolk (ORF). I had a meet and greet program at Norfolk (ORF) with my university seniors (Indian students association members). I did not face any immigration issues.
I had funding. I had a Graduate Research Assistant position in aerospace engineering department.
I am very happy with my Program. Course work was OK. Professors are very good and supportive. Lecture halls were decent. Library is excellent.
I live off campus but very close to campus.So, I had no problem with transportation and I fully enjoyed the campus facilities(gym, recreation centre, library, my department etc) when ever I needed even at nights if I had to go to my office. There is a very big Indian community around so you should not be feeling homesick. Cost of living is decent enough. I had a part time job. Social scene and weather is very good. Yes there is an international student society.
Yes. There is a placement cell. It is not easy to get a job and not impossible. We do have many job fairs organized in our university. There will be like 140 different companies who come every semester and participate in the job fairs. Work permit process is not difficult. There is alumni society. I am about to graduate this December.
