I chose the University of Sheffield solely for my program of study. Music psychology is hard to come by in the States. And I love to travel, so I decided to apply abroad for my graduate studies. UK education provides a collaborative and independent approach.
There are only 6 people on the course with me which makes it nice to work closely with my classmates and one-to-one with my professors. It is a very independent course so I am also able to take bio medical and psychology courses as well as develop research and perform within and outside of the music department. The lectures and research projects have helped me branch out in my field and understand music psychology from a different level, beyond my interests.
There is never a dull moment in the UK, people are very friendly here. Sheffield is a mix between city life and beautiful countryside. The music scene in the UK is just great. I have seen so many local bands at venues such as The Grapes, Runaway Girl and The Broadwalk. I have also seen classical performances around the city. Sheffield is full of bustling talent and has many venues that supports this talent. Its a wonderful music culture to be a part of.
