I have always been open-minded, but I think this experience has made me more open to meeting new people. People around here are so friendly. They will ask where you are from and why you are here, but it is never seen as a negative to be different. People around here are so helpful and kind, and they really seem to care about the well being of others. I think I am becoming more like that.

I always wanted to study abroad so I talked to the International Office at my university in Savant, Germany, and they gave me a list of partner schools. I was looking for a university with a good reputation and strong programs, especially in the engineering field. I went to Auburn's Web site and talked to a student from my school that went here before me. I also really appreciated Auburn’s goal to become top ten in the field of engineering. Auburn seemed like the right deal, and so far, I feel like I’ve made the best choice ever.

I am on Auburn’s hovercraft team. We are building a hovercraft out of polyfiber and we get to compete in a race soon. It is great to be working with students in my field to create something so innovative while competing and having fun. From a student’s point of view, the interaction between students and professors is completely different. Here you have meetings with your professor every week and they will help you with your work. They will help you with anything. If you are having problems with your coursework or research or even a personal problem, they will help. Our classes are much smaller at Auburn. Most of my courses here have about 30 people in them, but comparable classes I took in Germany could have 200 to 800 people in them. I really enjoy the smaller class size and more attention from professors.

Auburn football games have become one of my favorite things. I love Auburn football. It seems to be a unifying activity for this campus, and it gives you something to always talk about. The people that are Auburn fans and the students are so spirited and excited. A common phrase around here is ‘the Auburn family,’ and that is what it is like. A family. People seem to care very much for each other and reach out to their Auburn family. The people have been just great.
