The university experience is unlike that of all other forms of schooling. There are few teacher student boundaries, for me they were more collegue relationships. I found it a fun and educational experience that will essentially be the start of my career. I am enjoying all aspects of uni life and highly recommend others enrol, as it is both an academic and social place where you will make friends for life.
Even if you didnt do that well at school there are other non direct routes to get into uni. Like UC College where you do a joining course before your degree. The staff and assistants are very skilled and knowledgable and are able to help with anything. My tips for enrolling are be organised, if your not sure about something just ask, and dont stress about the course lots of students change degrees after getting in.
I did not have any funding or scholarships, but the university does offer these for a range of courses. Go to the uni website and search them. Most uni students dont pay upfront but rather use HECS or HELP schemes. These are where you apply to the government for the loan which is payable back to them once you have graduated and reached you income limit.
My science course was great, it involved both theory and practical based classes for which fieldtrips were a large contributor. The hours of study depen on the class, but dont worry studying with friends makes it so much easier. I would definately say that this course was worth, i've made friends for life and am opening up the door to many career opportunities.
Come to canberra! The people and atmosphere here is amazing. We have the husle and bustle of the city or the relaxed atmosphere of the suburbs, all in a relatively small area. The local transport is very efficient and there are always those looking for roomies! There is a huge variety of clubs and societies to choose from.
Definately, recruitment persons look for those with degrees, to go through uni you have had to gain and develop communicatio, organisational and managemnt skills. This is what employers look for. Once you've completed your studies its time to get a job!
