Studying in Uni of Surrey is fabulous. The academic freedom one gets here is really amazing especially for PGs. The infrastructure, funding, networking, social life, union activities,events and the beauty/locaiton of the campus can be rated 9 on 10 from my point of view. For the masters' course, i guess including more seminars/presentations/different modules would be benefitted rather than emphasising on doing assignments through out the year, which mostly is copy and paste, from a students perspective. Students who plan to come to Surrey-I can tell you only one thing-You have choosen the best university w.r.t. academics, job perspective and your social life.
As mine is a research course, the selection process was entirely different. A project was proposed by my supervisor and we decided on the proposal. I have not approached any external agent. It was just b/w me and supervisor. It was tough to get selected as i have applied for a project with scholarship.My academic credentials in India has helped me to successfully get the funds and bingo! i got the visa easily as it was a pure purpose of academic pursual with scholarship.
I got the University Research Scholarship. Details mentioned above.
Its a research course. Best part is NO LECTURES. I just have to do my research in my own time. The support i got from my supervisor is ........well what is the right word to describe?? amazing? excellent? uncomparable? ...well...i can put it as 'she is the world's best supervisor any one can get'!!! The course is 100% value for money. Environmental Engineering. Choosing the right course at the right uni at the right time with right tutor will help you gain fab experience.
Surrey is a beau county. It has a small town center and is accesible frm campus just by 10 min walk. The people in Guildford are quite laidback; they are mostly business people or retired or employed.....you wont see any hint of racist behaviour or any such insinuating experiences when you are here..it has lowest crime rate and a safer place to live. The towncenter has all major brands/shops and one can get a part time job easily. Students union is the best thing on campus. i was the president of indian students' association (ISA) for 2007-2008 and there are more than 300 societies to join. right from religious to sports to representing countries.... ISA did organise many events and won the best international society award for the same year.
Yet to do job search but am sure surrey has gud prospects.
