The advice I would give is that one should enjoy the college experience while maintaining good grades in school.
I had to write the SATs as part of the admission process. I studied the Barrons SAT prep for these test. I attended coaching classes too. I didnt use the services of any educational counselor. I needed VISA. The interview experience was easy. It was easy to get tickets for my destination. I flew using Northwest Airlines and it was good but there was no student fare. I landed on Baltimore-Washington International airport which is a days drive from my college. I couldnt have more than 50 pounds per baggage. Excess baggage was allowed. I didnt face immigration issues. And there was a meet and greet service at the airport.
There were many kinds of assistantships/scholarships/tuition waivers offered by the institution.
I was happy with the program structure and the professors were good. The lecture halls are high tech and big. The library was big and a good place to study.
I lived in a college hostel. They are spacious and comfortable to live in. I had full sport facilities. It is not easy to get part time job in my university. The social scene and night life were quite active in my city. My city has all four seasons. There is an international student society in my college. It handles diwali, holi to Ramadan.
My university has placement cells. It is not easy for international students to get jobs. There is a campus placement process in form of around 200 employers per year coming to campus and interviewing students. The work permit process is tedious and time consuming. There is an active alumni society in my university which helps in placement process by organizing networking events.
