As part of my post doctoral research in physical chemistry I worked under Prof. Julio M Fernandez at the Columbia University. It was a great learning experience for me and I enjoyed working in his lab.
I had completed my PhD at the Tata institute of fundamental research in Mumbai, India. My thesis titled Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Dynamics of Organic Molecules in Complex Systems was completed under the supervision of Prof. N. Periasamy.
The Columbia University is assists investigators seeking external funding, promotes scientific research and awards seed money for early stage investigations.
My research entailed construction of polyproteins of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) using polyprotein engineering and molecular biology. I also had to investigate their mechanical properties by single molecule force spectroscopy. All the required research facilities were available at the Columbia University.
