Eastern New Mexico University, which opened in 1934, has a 4-year campus in Portales and 2-year campuses in Roswell and Ruidoso. Around 4,100 students are enrolled in Portales. The university offers more than 60 associates, bachelors and masters degrees. Some of the popular undergraduate majors offered are Biology, Business administration, Communication, Criminal justice, Education, Elementary education, Physical education and Psychology. The study programs are housed at the different colleges of the university: College of Business, College of Education and Technology, College of Fine Arts, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School.
