Apa yang akan saya pelajari?

The Bachelor of Humanitarian and Community Studies develops your skills to understand, critically analyze and apply concepts of community development and international humanitarian assistance. This course focuses specifically on working with indigenous and non-indigenous communities in urban and resource-poor environments. The course is delivered by academics and experienced practitioners. Interdisciplinary course units provide you with knowledge in:

  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Ethics
  • Human service delivery
  • Cultural studies
  • Indigenous knowledge
  • Community engagement
  • Project management
  • International humanitarian practice

During the studies of this course, students will also complete two practice placements in their second and third year where they will acquire hands-on skills and knowledge in the fields of humanitarian practice and community development.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

The course is accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA). Graduates will be eligible to apply for membership upon course completion.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduating from this course may lead to career opportunities in government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and agencies engaged in community development or humanitarian assistance.

The program provides you with an excellent basis to further your knowledge in allied fields including but not limited to public policy, humanitarian practice and development, as well as emergency and disaster management

Applicants must have successful completion of SMU minimum grade of 8; one year of a university degree from a recognised institution. English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic Module- A minimum overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): A minimum overall score of 169, with no skill below 169; Common European Framework Certificate of English Proficiency: A minimum overall grade of B2; Navitas Academic English: A minimum overall pass and 55% in Academic English 3; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module: A minimum overall score of 50 with no score lower than 50; TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT): A minimum overall score of 60 and a minimum writing score of 21.
