Centennial College's Mechanical Engineering Technician – Design (Fast-Track) program is geared towards qualified college or university graduates who gain direct admission into year two (semester three) of this two-year program and receive their technician diploma in one year (two semesters).

A project-based approach to learning is used in the courses of this college engineering diploma program. In small groups, you work on specific projects, learning how to plan, schedule, create, design and build as a part of a team. You also learn advanced computer-assisted drafting and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD/CAM) skills.

This college engineering program offers variety to those who can combine strong conceptual thinking with a practical knowledge of machines and how they work.

You may either graduate as a technician after one year, or continue with additional study and co-op work experience in Centennial College's Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design program. The additional study takes an extra year to complete.

Please note: Some courses may be offered in an online/hybrid format.

Program Highlights

The Mechanical Engineering program makes use of a state-of-the-art lab, which features thermodynamic fluid power testing modules, and tensile, hardness and impact testers.

Through a project-based approach that has an approximate 60-40 balance between theory and practice, you gain experience in machine shop operation, tool design and computer numerical control programming.

Instruction is included in industry-current software in Inventor, Solid works, and Master cam, as well as modern CAD/CAM equipment.

For some graduate certificate or fast-track programs, we will consider applicants who have a partial degree (minimum two years) or a two-year college diploma and who have a minimum of two years of work experience related to the program of study. English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or TOEFL (computer-based) 88+ (with no test below 22); IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5+ (with no single test score below 6.0); CAEL with an overall band score of 70; writing score 60, or MELAB score of 82, or Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 60 plus, or ITEP (International Test of English Proficiency) score of 4.1 plus.
