The Department of Mathematics & Statistics has 17 mathematics and statistics faculty members who wish to work with graduate students in their area of expertise and research. Current research areas within our department include: Algebra, Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, Combinatorics, Mathematical Physics, Probability, Statistics, and Topology.

Our Master's programs are designed to prepare students for doctoral research, as well as to provide specialized training applicable to further employment in the Public Sector, Business and Industry. Normally Master's programs are completed in two years; however, after 12 months in the M.Sc. program and successful completion of Qualifying exams a student may be considered for transfer to the Doctoral program.

Applicants must have a three-year first cycle undergraduate degree, in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study, from an institution which will be acceptable as the equivalent of an undergraduate honours degree.A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of full-time study (i.e. 60 credit units U of S equivalent)is required. Other English Language Requirements accepted: TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based test and TOEFL (computer based) of 213 ; the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)with a minimum overall score of 59; Most recent official CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) Assessment score of 60 or higher; A minimum score of at least 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) with a minimum grade of C or higher.

Fully qualified: Overall score of 63 with minimum scores of 59 in each area.
