The Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management (EIM) provides students with an entrepreneurial attitude and skill set that can help them to create new businesses or innovate existing businesses. Addressing problems related to business, society and the environment requires creative ideas as well as a solid understanding of customer and market development. The program offers a learning experience where theory and practice are highly interlinked, preparing graduates for entrepreneurship-inspired career paths – ranging from founding and growing a startup to leading innovation inside any organization. To get a headstart in these careers, students are invited to join Aalto’s renowned entrepreneurship community and student-led initiatives such as Aaltoes, Slush and Junction.

Objectives of studies

Entrepreneurship and innovation are important engines of growth and renewal for our societies – in the private, public and non-profit sectors. This program is all about creating new ideas and turning them into viable products and services that generate economic, social and environmental value. Upon graduation from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management programme, graduates will have developed their:

  • Creativity. Graduates have cultivated curiosity by inventing, testing and designing new products and services.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and know-how. Graduates are confident and equipped to start and develop new businesses around their ideas.
  • Leadership capabilities. Graduates have experience in managing complex projects and working in teams with colleagues from different backgrounds.
  • Tolerance for uncertainty. Graduates keep their head cool when leading companies in rapidly changing environments.
  • Solutions to real-life challenges. Graduates apply science- and theory-based learnings into solutions that respond to real-world problems.
  • Power to shape the world. Graduates are able to create successful businesses that have a positive financial, societal and environmental impact.

Structure of studies

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management is organized by the School of Business and comprises a total of 120 ECTS credits. The two-year programme consists of:

  • Programme studies (84 ECTS)
  • Minor studies (24 ECTS)
  • Electives (12 ECTS)

Students have the opportunity to complete the minor studies (24 ECTS) in an official exchange programme partner of the School of Business.

At the beginning of their studies, students define their Personal Study Plans (PSP) together with an academic advisor. The primary purpose of PSP is to ensure that the studies support the student’s interests and are completed in a logical order.
