What You’ll Study
The flexible programme gives you the freedom to choose your own major after your first year. Select one of six possible core disciplines, including China studies, geography, politics and public administration, psychology^, social policy and social development, and sociology.
Add an optional multidisciplinary programme as a major or minor to further enhance your study experience. Possible courses include cognitive science, counselling, criminology, media and cultural studies, neuroscience, and urban governance.
Alternatively, you also have the option to take a second major or combination of minors in the Faculty of Arts, HKU Business School, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Science.
Additional minors offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences include human resources management and journalism and media studies.
Exciting Opportunities
The programme prioritises off-campus experiential learning. You will participate in internships or exclusive overseas academic exchange programmes to earn practical experience and enhance your international exposure.
Career Prospects
Graduates have pursued careers in government, politics, public corporations, community organisations, the media, and the private sector. Alternatively, you may consider pursuing postgraduate studies at renowned universities locally and worldwide.

Competitive Admission Standards:
You must achieve at least one of the following English Language Requirements to be considered for admission to HKU.
International Baccalaureate Diploma
GCSE / GCEO
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English / Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
SAT Reasoning Test: Sub-scores of 550 in both Critical Reading and Writing in the same attempt of the SAT Reasoning Test (prior to March 2016); or Test scores of 31 in Writing and Language and 30 in Reading in the same attempt of the Redesigned SAT Reasoning Test;
IELTS: An overall band of 6.5 in IELTS Academic Module;
A score of 93 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or an overall score of 70 in the revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test.
