Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary programme with a unifying focus on gender as a theoretical perspective or as a subject of analysis. It allows students to bring together different disciplinary and methodological approaches for the advancement of gender studies. The programme emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and research skills.
Students will be assigned to both the Division of Gender Studies and a subject department.
Students need to complete 8 units from the Gender Studies Programme, fulfill the requirements of the subject department and submit a written thesis in order to graduate. The requirements of subject disciplines may be adjusted at the discretion of subject departments.
Fields of Specialization
Students will conduct independent research under any department (including but not limited to Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Educational Administration & Policy, History, Japanese Studies, Journalism, Literature, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology or Social Work, and other allied fields) with a focus on gender.

have good background in their intended field of concentration
To fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes, applicants should have:
obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or
achieved scores in the following English Language tests2 as indicated:
obtained a pass grade in other English language requirements equivalent to HKDSE or
obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
