The master’s in Biobased Materials will provide you with the knowledge and skills to deal with these challenges. As the planet is running out of fossil fuels, alternative resources for materials and plastics need to be identified and developed. We need a new generation of scientists to discover new materials and sustainable production methods that make use of biological resources. This provides an opportunity for the development of novel materials with completely new material properties. The master’s programme in Bio-based Materials allows you to play a part in this revolution, preparing you for a career in the research, development, production and application of bio-based materials.

As a Bio-based Materials student, you'll be part of an intellectual community in which staff and students together create a learning environment that fosters the desire to learn and develop. Our location at Chemelot also creates the possibility for close contact with local companies and research institutes that are becoming part of this community through our work together.

The curriculum of this master’s programme is developed in close collaboration with the Biobased Materials department of Maastricht University’s Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. The researchers of this department comprise a multidisciplinary group that focuses on the development of novel biobased materials and their production techniques. The Biobased Materials education and research programme are aligned with the Biobased Materials development chain, which demonstrates the multidisciplinary nature of this field of study.
