Do you want to dive into water and environmental issues on all scales and connect scientific findings to societal implications or environmental policies? This might require a change of viewpoint: whereas ecologists take species as their viewpoint, we start with stressors, such as the carbon dioxide emissions, agricultural pesticide use, or hunting.
What will you learn?
In this specialisation you will be trained to become an environmental, water or nature expert, analysing the impact of mankind on ecosystem and human health. You will learn to quantitatively assess and manage issues like climate change, pollution and land use change. During two internships, you will be responsible for your own experiments, surveys and (model) analysis, under the supervision of one of our top researchers at the IWWR.
Career prospects
After graduation, about one third of our students quickly take up a position as researcher and one third starts working at a policy officer at a governmental organisation or an NGO. The rest of the students usually choose for a position in industry, for example, as a risk analyser of toxic substances. In general, our graduates end up as a:

Entering the Master’s specialisation in Water and Environment requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or a related field of science.
An international degree has to be equivalent to a Dutch university diploma. The Admission Office will determine if an international student has the required knowledge to be admitted.
