Learn the most effective strategies to teach adults essential skills in literacy and numeracy.

This programme is for anyone who wants to work as a vocational or workplace educator and trainer and is essential for those working with foundation students at levels 1 and 2. You will learn how to tailor your teaching to suit the educational needs of your students.

You can study fully online either full-time or part-time around your work and family commitments.

Career opportunities

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge for roles such as a vocational or workplace educator and trainer with the ability to embed literacy and numeracy into their programme.

Graduates of this programme can have credit recognized for two courses (Celebrating Diversity and Learner Centred Design) towards the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5).

You will need to complete four (10 credit) courses:

103.501 The Literacy and Numeracy Journey in Aotearoa (10 credits)

103.502 Learner Adult Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Tools (10 credits)

761.506 Celebrating Diversity (10 credits)

905.525 Learner-Centred Design (10 credits)

New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5)
Graduate Certificate in Activity Based Learning (Level 7)
Graduate Certificate in Applied elearning (Level 7).

Applicants must be currently teaching or have regular access to tertiary teaching or vocational training environments.

Academic Criteria

Applicants must hold a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification in any discipline or equivalent (if equivalent, applicants may be required to attend an interview to determine their suitability to study on this level 5 programme).

Entry requirements vary from country to country.

IELTS test: Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET at Grade C in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
