Management occupations are projected to grow rapidly over the next ten years leading to an increasing need for management professionals.
There is also an increasing demand for those professionals to hold higher level qualifications. Applicants for these roles are therefore at a considerable advantage with a postgraduate qualification.
Flexibility within this qualification will also enable aspirations to be matched/targeted to specific employment opportunities.
You will extend and deepen your knowledge and understanding of current information systems management capabilities and issues in a range of applied settings through experiential learning strategies and reflective practice. There is the opportunity to work with industry during a professional project and the programme also includes employability workshops, industry events and guest speakers.
This qualification will prepare you for further postgraduate study in the Master of Applied Management (Business Information Systems). Alternatively, you could seek employment in a range of roles including: Business Analyst; Business Intelligence Analyst; Information Systems Analyst; Information Systems Security Analyst; Project Manager; Technical/Solution Architect; User Experience / Front End Designer; Information Systems Researcher
Pathways into this programme
Students may have completed an undergraduate degree in a different discipline and be working in a management role. There are no specific foundation/bridging programmes in Applied Management for this qualification. Where English proficiency does not meet the required IELTS level, students may pathway to this qualification by completing the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Professional/Academic) (Level 5) which is available at Otago Polytechnic.
Your workload
You will be expected to spend about 38 hours per week (or 300 hours per study block) on your course work. This includes both scheduled class time and self-directed study. Some of these hours may be spent in a workplace gaining hands-on experience and developing important industry and business connections.
Delivery: You can either study it on campus in Auckland where there is face-to-face teaching and block courses or international students outside of New Zealand can study it online.

Minimum academic entry requirements are:
International applicants must demonstrate that they have equivalent academic qualifications and experience.
If English is not your first language, you must provide:
New Zealand University Entrance OR
Overall Academic IELTS 6.5 with no individual band score lower than 6.0 (achieved in one test completed in the last two years), OR
TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 590 (with an essay score of 5.5 TWE)
TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 79 (with a writing score of 21)
Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176. No less than 169 in each skill;
PTE (Academic) score of 58 with no band score lower than 50
Language Certificate: C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill or C2 Mastery IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
