This programme is designed to develop the students’ foundation skills in Numeracy, Technology and Literacy, thereby enhancing their performance for both academic and non-academic endeavours. It effectively prepares students for the intellectual demands and skills set required at degree level.
Delivery model
Combination of lectures, tutorials and workshops in a classroom environment at Informatics Academy campus. Lessons are typically in blocks of 3-hour sessions.
Module Synopsis
Literacy Skills
This module equips students with the skills to write well-argued and coherent essays and improve their fluency in English. Topics covered will include summary and essay writing, critical reading, referencing and other academic literacy skills.
Numeracy Skills
This module focuses on the mathematical background necessary for further study at tertiary level. It emphasizes on the development of critical analytic thinking and the use of clear mathematical expression as a means of communication.
Technology Skills
This module covers the use of IT productivity tools in the school and work environment. The IT tools that will be taught include: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Calendar and other online forms. Besides these, students will also learn about website management and document embedding created by the tools in a website. To enhance the learning experience, students will need to have basic computer knowledge about web browsers and operating systems.
Graduation Requirements
Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be eligible for the Certificate in Foundation Skills awarded by Informatics Academy.
Pathway
Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Foundation Skills awarded by Informatics Academy, the student is eligible to apply for an Informatics Academy Diploma programme.
