This course will develop students to be game designers who are able to imagine, conceive and structure creative game ideas and are instilled with the rigour and necessary skills to develop these ideas into digital games using the latest digital tools. Students will be trained in the game design and development process that ranges from idea generation, original content creation, understanding of the game experience, conceptualization, research, design, testing and prototyping of ideas and finally the implementation of a complete game using digital tools such as 2D imaging tools, 3D modelling and animation tools and game engines. Students will have opportunities to work on industrial projects and build up their personal portfolios to enhance their career prospects. Students will also be attached to these companies during the Industrial Training Programme to gain first-hand industrial experience. They will study in design studios that are project-based, practice-oriented teaching environments with multimedia facilities. There will also be a digital media laboratory for photography, video editing and production and a motion-capture studio. Graduates with a Diploma in Games Design and Development are able to work in: game studios, animation studios, other creative services such as computer graphics, visualisation, multi-media and web design. Graduates could be: game designer, level designer, digital content creator, game quality assurance tester, texture painter, 3d modeler, animator, concept artist, gameplay scripter, level scripter, interactive media designer, user experience designer, web designer. Graduates who have done well for the course may be able to apply for advanced standing to pursue a degree in a university.
