How will I be taught and assessed?

You will be supported with workshops, lectures and seminars that introduce you to a range of topics, from your role and responsibility as a producer and 1st AD to how to work alongside crews, agents and directors.

You will also attend professional masterclasses, and related sessions that will act as transferable skills as a later date, such as reading colleagues’ work and visualisation of proposed material.

Throughout your time studying you will be assessed in a range of different ways, including;

  • essays where you will be required to present research material in specific subjects and edit it to fit desired outcomes as well as write in depth about particular topics
  • reports where you will be encouraged to document your entire learning progress throughout the degree
  • portfolio which is an essential part of the course in order to present yourself visually to prospective employers. You will be taught on the different processes involved in producing industry-standard portfolio and assessed on the outcomes
  • practical skills which is one of the most important elements of the degree and you will be assessed on the quality of your finished pieces throughout the course.

What are my career prospects?

On completion of the MA, you might start as a freelance Producer, 1st or 2nd Assistant Director, Line Producer, a Production Secretary, or a Production Manager for film or TV.

Students require successful completion of a Bachelor degree with an overall pass or above from a UK NARIC-recognised institution.

Graduate entrants to the programme will normally hold an Honours degree or equivalent and be able to demonstrate an interest in production and filmmaking. Personal statements should indicate a passion and interest in cinema and a working knowledge of the production process. The University also welcomes applicants who have significant industry experience and no formal qualifications. These applicants will be assessed through a recruitment process based on an interview. Students need to have an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 (5.5). TOEFL iBT with 72 overall score with 17 in Listening, 17 in Writing, 20 in Speaking, 18 in Reading.
