Course Overview
Sports coaching and sports science have become vital components of sports performance. Working in sport requires a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge, interpersonal skills and understanding of the sporting environment. This course will equip you with the practitioner knowledge and experience to succeed and secure employment in the competitive sports industry.
Why study this subject?
Sports Performance will enable you to build on the technical underpinnings of an undergraduate degree in a related field and provide the applied experience that employers demand.
You will develop problem solving skills and the creativity necessary to thrive in a competitive sporting environment, while learning about the current practice and future direction of applied sports science. You will develop the essential skills to work with and communication effectively with athletes, coaches, support staff or independent clients for maximum impact.
What facilities can I use?
The Human Performance Laboratory at Buckinghamshire New University is central to this qualification, and you will be given the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of the facilities services.
Through the delivery of an expanding sports science support service, as an MSc Sports Performance student, you will interact with clients, technical personnel and suppliers. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in marketing and expansion of the current service.
What will I study?
This course will cover topics such as Contemporary Issues in Sports and Exercise Science, Applied Sport Science Support, and Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team.This programme will help:
You will also produce a Research Project and a take part in a Placement or Student Enterprise to further develop your skills and opportunities for employment.
How will I be taught and assessed?
You will be taught through a variety of methods, including lectures, seminars, and more practical activities. This course will draw on the theoretical and industry experience of staff and utilise and range of methods depending on the module.
The majority of modules have two summative assessment elements. There are no written examinations due to the programme’s vocational nature. Instead you will be assessed through a range of activities, including: online assessment; research project; written assignment; role play; practical laboratory based assessment; presentation; and case study (Placement).
