Programme description
The foundation year of the programme aims to develop students' core skills and provide a broad range of industrial experience through MSc level modules, case studies and projects. This will allow students to make an informed choice of PhD topic. After 9 months cores skills training, student will develop a PhD project proposal with academic staff members, which will form the basis of their individual thesis project for Years 2-4.
This 4-year PhD programme gives students the opportunity to develop their core skills, learn about a broader range of metallurgical research, and develop their own PhD project. The preparatory year also gives a head start so that students are able to make rapid progress with their PhD project. The ambition of the CDT programme is to prepare a new generation of Doctoral graduates, with highly developed specialised skills in metallic materials, for future research challenges in a globally competitive market place.
