This programme is designed for graduates who would like to work in the lifelong learning sector.
The sector includes further, higher and adult education, community and youth services, the health services, uniformed services (the armed forces, prison, the police and fire services), and private trainers and large organisations with their own training departments. It also includes provision for teaching 14 to 16-year-olds in some subjects.
This is a full-time course, normally completed in one year. Students will spend two days per week with other trainee teachers, following a course of academic study on principles of teaching and learning. Up to three days per week will be spent in a placement within their specialist area, working with a range of students and building skills and confidence as a teacher.
What will I study?
The programme is run in partnership with the University of Hull leading to a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for holders of UK degrees. The modules studied cover all the fundamental skills of teaching, facilitation of learning and curriculum development:
Two modules would be studied at level 6 and two modules at level 7. Level 7 credits can be transferred to a Masters in Education.
The College will help you to organise a suitable work placement in the local area. You will need to teach for a minimum of 100 hours.
How will the course be delivered?
The programme includes taught sessions, tutorials, teaching practice experience, visiting speakers and seminars, and a conference at University of Hull.
