The art studio program offers students the opportunity to choose from two undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio (B.A.) and the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.). The B.A. is a well-rounded liberal arts major that offers a solid foundation in multiple types of art and is ideal for students interested in double majoring. The B.F.A. is a pre-professional degree that allows students to focus in one of our seven concentration areas: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking or sculpture (3-D studies).

All B.A. undergraduate students will

• explore the development of art, within their own and other cultures, from prehistory to the present.
• critically analyze aspects of the design and art-making process and evaluate theories, philosophies and research in the practice of the studio arts. Students' work is evaluated in portfolios and the quality of artwork in the portfolio. Students are expected to produce work that is idea-driven, follows criteria for each individual project in the portfolio, technical skills and craftsmanship.
• through their artwork, demonstrate their competency of aesthetic literacy.

All B.F.A. undergraduate students will

• define and explain development of art, within their own and other cultures, from prehistory to the present.
• critically analyze aspects of the design and art-making process and evaluate theories, philosophies and research in the practice of the studio arts.
• through their artwork, demonstrate their competency of aesthetic literacy.
• synthesize their learning from the curriculum into a final culminating experience within their chosen concentration.
• have a solo exhibition of their creative research to be examined by the student’s major faculty.
