This degree program offers the opportunity for concentrated study of traditional economic theory as well as specific economic and social issues, including:

Each student works with an advisor to create a customized program that meets specific career goals. This type of planning is particularly attractive to students interested in pursuing graduate study in economics, law, business, journalism, or the social sciences.

In addition to coursework, internships and co-op work experiences are available for students interested in careers in business management, government administration, labor relations, economic analysis, banking, and urban planning.

Students benefit from small classes taught by award-winning faculty who have a diversity of specialties. Most hold doctoral degrees—and all engage in research and scholarly publication. Coursework is further enriched with lectures and presentations by visiting scholars and economists from abroad.

Other opportunities include the University's Honors Program and study abroad programs—which range from summer programs to a single semester or a full academic year in over 56 countries.

Careers

Our graduates are prepared for a variety of entry-level positions in government, industry, research organizations, and consulting firms. With experience and an advanced degree, many advance into positions of greater responsibility, including administration, independent research, and teaching positions at colleges and universities. Most pursue graduate study in areas such as business, economics, medicine, and law.
