Like the Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science in Economics provides students with the qualitative skills they need to critically analyze questions faced by policy makers and firms. However, unlike the BA it places a greater emphasis on developing students’ quantitative skills. Students are required to take a combination of economics, econometrics, and math courses as well as complete a research project to achieve the BS. Students also have the flexibility to add a minor or second major. A BS in economics is perfect for a student who wants to develop their quantitative skills and to explore their interest in another field.

A first-year student is someone who has never been enrolled in any college or university, international or domestic. The admissions office reserves the right to request students to submit additional proof of English proficiency, even if they meet the above-listed requirements. Sub-scores for different sections within the examination are also considered in determining whether a student has a strong enough command of the English language in order to succeed at Salem State University.
